Everything was moving along marvelously again on my raw food lifestyle until I hit another snag. I suddenly developed such serious diarrhea for days that I began to be concerned again. By the fourth day I started wondering if it would stop! It was like a war was raging in my innards, and life became a bit miserable. I became concerned about dehydration too.
It seems to have started on the day I ate 2 salads instead of my usual one a day. I believe I was reacting to an increase in roughage that my healing body was not able to cope with yet. Raw food has tons of roughage! I was after those minerals in every way I could think, and figured a double salad that particular day was just the thing!
After that it seemed like every time I ate a salad I would react with diarrhea. I had been eating salad [before the double salad day] quite easily, so that is when I became concerned. What was going on?
I came off salad completely and the diarrhea subsided. Thankfully.
I noticed that every time I had a green smoothie – where the greens are well blended – I was fine. This has convinced me that the less ‘chewed’ raw food was affecting my gut. Could this be my gut treating an emergency, or using the extra fiber for a deeper cleanse? I don’t know.
Returning to salad
I have started including my raw food salad again without all the problems of before – but only one salad a day now. Perhaps this all happened because I am not used to so much roughage; and whereas too little results in constipation – well, too much seems to have the opposite effect with me.
